Y Combinator Startup School · Taipei ·
We've shot this room before.
Covered as a content system, not a one-off shoot. Photos out that night, an aftermovie while the room is still buzzing, the full archive in two days.
01 · Proof
Startup School India. The bar we set.
The benchmark to cross.
We've done this with YC before. Everything in this proposal is measured against what we actually shipped at Startup School India.

02 · Scope
What Taipei gets.
Two-camera panel coverage
One camera tight on the speaker, one wide on the room. Both roll the whole time, so the edit is about picking the best take, not fixing what went wrong.
Event photography
The official record of the day. Every frame is ready to publish under YC's name without a regrade.
The event aftermovie
The film that takes the day past the room. Cut for the feed, because that's where most people will actually watch it.
A Creative Director on the ground
What turns a camera crew into a content team. One person reads the room, moves cameras during the talks, and keeps the day pointing at one story.
150 edited photographs, inside twelve hours
Founders are going to post that night regardless. The question is whether it's a phone snap or an official YC frame. Twelve hours means the room is still paying attention when the photos land.
Raw footage, inside forty-eight hours
Every recording, audio file, and uncut frame, organised and labelled. From day three, YC has a content library it actually owns.
03 · Run of show
12 November, hour by hour.
Songshan Cultural & Creative Park, Taipei
- 12:00
Doors
Rigged and ready before the first guest walks in. The Creative Director does a walk-through with YC to lock down what cannot be missed.
- 13:30
Talks begin
Both cameras roll straight through speaker changes. Between talks we grab founders for short pieces to camera.
- 16:30
Happy hour
Most crews pack up before this. It's also the hour that produces the best material: portraits, intros, the conversations that weren't on the schedule.
- 18:30
Wrap
Cards offloaded and backed up to two drives on site before anyone leaves. We start selects that night.
- +12 HOURS
Photographs delivered
The full set, culled and graded, in a gallery attendees can pull from directly. Real photography instead of phone snaps, while the day is still being talked about.
- +48 HOURS
The complete archive
Everything from the day in one organised handover. Labelled so you can still find what you need a year later.
- POST
The aftermovie
Edit, colour, sound, delivery. YC sees it before it goes live.
04 · The crew
Five on the ground.
Not five cameras. Five roles, each covering what the others can't.
Creative Director
He ran the floor at Startup School India and set the benchmark this proposal is measured against. On the day he holds the whole narrative, so four people shooting separately end up with one coherent piece.

Videographer, Tight - Cam
Locked to the speaker for every talk.
Videographer, Wide - Cam
Holds the panel and the stage in one frame.
1 B-Roll Videographer
Dedicated to record comprehensive b-rolls for the aftermovie
1 Photographer
Dedicated to capture images across the day.
05 · Idea bank
Idea bank.
Since you asked for more ideas, here are a few additional content concepts we think we can execute during the shoot that could add real value.
One captioned vertical per speaker, out within 45 minutes.
Format
One vertical clip per speaker, 30 to 60 seconds. Hard-captioned in English and Traditional Chinese.
Execution
A dedicated editor on site, cutting from a live stage feed. Each clip lands with YC's social team inside 45 minutes of the speaker walking off.
Why it works
The audience is already posting, and right now it's a blurry phone photo. This is the only format that rides their networks instead of relying on YC's own channel.
Impact
Same-day reach while attention is peaking, and a reason to come for everyone in Taipei who didn't. The clip is the curriculum, Startup School in miniature, passed around by people the viewer already knows.
References
A two-camera set running all day, parallel to the main stage.
Execution
Every speaking founder and every Taiwanese YC alum in the room, on a fixed question set. They're already in the building, so there's no extra travel.
Why it works
YC already runs this format and it's the backbone of the channel. Same idea, localised.
A trailer shot in Taipei a week before doors open.
Format
A 60 to 90 second trailer, delivered the day before doors open.
Execution
Crew in Taipei about a week out: city textures, local builder faces, the venue. Shot as a trailer, not a promo.
Why it works
It frames Startup School as something happening to the city, not just a conference in a hall. That's what gets attendees to act like they're somewhere worth posting.
Impact
It fills the room, which every other format on this page depends on. It also reaches the people who were never going to show up.
Vox pops plus alumni, cut into a series after the event.
Format
Two strands, one series. Released across three weeks after the event.
Execution
Vox pops on the day answering one question: why did you come. Plus sit-downs with Taiwanese YC alumni on what YC actually changed.
Why it works
The other formats prove YC is exciting. This one proves it works, in Taiwan. It answers the question people are actually asking: is YC for someone like me?
Impact
The closing argument. It turns reach into belief, and it compounds: this year's vox pops feed next year's pre-event film.
